See a lot of this 1970s Gottlieb Pro Football game, and usually the glasses are in decent condition. But in walked a gentlemen to our shop with a glass that was not only faded, but peeling. So we scanned it and cleaned up the artwork, restoring his original glass to like new condition.
Category: Restorations
A gentlemen walked into the shop with a 1970s Williams Klondike score glass that he wanted restored. His wasn’t in terrible condition, but he just wanted a new and fresh look for his game. Below and the before and after.
The 1973 Chicago Coin Casino backglass restoration was kind of a different situation. Someone else actually had their glass scanned, and sent us the Photoshop files. We can often do this if the scan is large enough, square, and clean. Below is the output results for this game.
This is a really cool 1960s pellet shooter style gun game made by Bally. The original glass was totally delaminating from the glass, with clear packing tape the only thing holding it together. So we scanned it and cleaned up the artwork, with great results. Check out the before and after picture below.
In walks a guy with what we would called “shattered glass in a box”, which once resembled a backglass to a 1967 Chicago Coin Criss Cross Ski Ball game. The guy literally had a box full of broken pieces. So we all sat down and played “jigsaw” and put the glass back together. It was […]
Accidents happen unfortunately. Moving this 1970s Midway EM arcade game called Sea Devil (cool submarine gun game) and it fell over and the backglass broke. Check the picture below, it just shattered to near nothing. Luckily we were able to get the artwork scanned from another glass and restore this machine. The picture below shows […]
Another game that would certainly never have it’s glass reproduced was this Gottlieb Airport pinball. Again great game for a BeResto.com backglass restoration process. The artwork for this machine turned out great.
Here’s a perfect example of an ideal score glass restoration. First, the original glass was poor, at best. Frankly we shouldn’t have taken this one on, as the original was in such bad condition. But Steve felt this game was an excellent example of why BgResto.com even exists. Also I guess Steve felt he needed […]
Two of our key clients got together on this restoration to make it a success. One of our primary customers did a giant game move, and in the process broke their 1973 Williams Ambush gun game score glass. It was cracked into many pieces, and he tried to tape it back together with clear packing […]
The Gottlieb Central Park is a classic Gottlieb EM pinball from the 1960s. So when its backglass came into the shop for restoration, we where happy to spend the time required to make it happen. Below is a picture of the final result of the restoration.
The 1960s multi-player pinballs don’t generally get a lot of love by backglass silkscreen restoration shops. So when these glasses come into the shop we are thrilled with doing their restoration. The Gottlieb Dodge City came in, and after scanning and correction in Photoshop, the following was the result.
Another rather old baseball game score glass came into the shop, in rather poor condition. After some time in Photoshop we were able to really clean up the glass, and restore it to like-new condition. Below is the result of that restoration.
This glass came into the shop is fairly poor condition. Not surprising though, since the game is from the 1950s. We scanned it and did the corrections for missing artwork. Below is the final front image of the new restoration.
The 1970s Gottlieb Gemini pinball only made around 400 units. But it’s a good game and one worth restoring. So when the glass came into the shop for restoration, we were happy to do the work. Below is the restored glass picture.
The 1970s Midway EM gun game called Gang Busters came into the shop for restoration. The original glass had considerable ink and color loss. We scanned the glass and restored it to like-new condition. Below is the final file.
The original 1967 Gottlieb Super Score glass came to us in less than stellar condition. It wasn’t so much a major loss of artwork, but just a lot of little detail. This is often the areas that are the most difficult to repair. Having large areas of a single color missing generally isn’t a big […]
We were contacted by a guy with a Gottlieb Fashion Show score glass that needed restoration. Since this was a glass we never restored prior, we had to get his original glass. He sent it, but in the process, it was shattered by the shipper. No problem, we can work around this. (This isn’t an […]
We received a request to restore a Gottlieb Captain Card (add-a-ball) glass. Fortunately we had a NOS original glass lying around, so we scanned that to use as the base artwork for this game. We already did the replay version of this game (High Hand), so we had a good basis of color matching to […]
Sometimes you have to be patient. That is, you have to wait until a good example of a particular glass comes around, and then scan that glass. This was one of those case on this two player woodrail EM pinball, Capt. Kidd. A friend of mine has this game, but his backglass was just wasted […]
We received a request to restore a 1957 Bally Circus backglass. This is the game Bally released right after the 1956 hit Balls-a-Poppin, and is basically the same game (but with different artwork.) An amazing game, and one certainly worthy of restoration. So we were more than happy to take on this glass. Note we […]
This was one of those weird situations where someone had their original glass scanned for us. This works great if you know someone with a large format high resolution scanner, as you don’t have to send your original backglass to us for scanning. We received the files and reworked them in our usual manner. Below […]
We received a decent condition Williams DoodleBug score glass in the shop for restoration. It didn’t need a lot of work for a change. Actually this was a treat, because some of these glasses are missing more ink than is present. Anyway, below are the before and after pictures. You can also check out the […]
A guy walked in with a Williams SuperStar backglass that was peeling badly. This game isn’t a million dollar machine, but he wanted a good looking score glass for it. So we scanned it in and touched it up, creating a nice restoration for this machine. This glass was a big of a problem due […]
In to the shop walked a Gottlieb Jacks Open backglass for restoration (replay version of Lucky Hand). This original glass was very faded, but overall in otherwise decent condition. So it was an excellent candidate for a restoration job. We scanned the glass and touched it up and Photoshop for the restoration. Below are the […]
So a guy walks into the shop with a Williams “Big Dick” backglass for restoration and modification. But first some background on this score glass. The art work was originally done by the famous 1970s pinball artist Dave Christensen during the Captain Fantastic era. Christensen, who worked at Bally as an artist, was frankly a […]
The Williams Aztec machine is one that often does not have a good score glass. I don’t know why, but nearly every Aztec I’ve personally seen has some backglass issues. So when this glass walked into the shop for restoration, we thought it was an excellent candidate. After all, potentially a lot of people could […]
This particular Gottlieb Volley score glass walked into the shop for restoration. It didn’t look like it was in bad condition, but when back lit, all the flaws were clearly shown. So we scanned in the glass and cleaned up the issues, making a good restored backglass for this game. The before and after pictures […]
To date we’ve never seen this game with a good backglass. There always seems to be issues with it. It’s a cool game too, so it definitely deserves a good score glass. Someone out of NY had done a really bad reproduction which we purchased for our game. We were very disappointed with that version, […]
This 1976 Gottlieb Card Whiz backglass was in nice condition, but highly faded (2 player version of Royal Flush). In fact, we can’t recall ever seeing a score glass more faded than this example. All the red areas were completely washed out. The water based inked used for this glass just didn’t hold up. Clearly […]
This was a project we should have never taken on. The original Williams Honey backglass that was given to us for restoration was just a mess. In situations like this it’s better to wait for a better example to scan, then to do the work required to repair the missing artwork. Steve, for some reason, […]
The solidstate Williams Pharaoh backglass has a nasty habit of artwork delamination in large sheets. The glass we were asked to restored indeed had this problem, but luckily, not as bad as often seen. So we were able to scan it and restore the missing artwork in Photoshop, and make this glass look like new […]
Met a guy that has a Gottlieb Atlantis and his backglass was faded. He wanted a new version with bright colors. No problem! So we scanned in his glass and worked with the pantone colors in Photoshop, giving him a nice restoration to his original glass. Below are the before and after pictures. Note this […]
Though this glass wasn’t in particularly bad condition, the owner wanted it restored to upgrade his game. Not a particularly common game at just 884 units made. Doubt anyone else will ever need this restoration done, but we took it on anyway. Below are the before and after pictures.
A guy walked with with a Gottlieb Vulcan backglass that needed to be restored (4 player version of Fire Queen). But he wanted some modifications to the glass, as he was a Marvel comic book fan. So I talked to my California friend Izzy, and he agreed to do the modifications. Below are the outcome […]
While at a pinball show a guy walked up to us with his Gottlieb Four Square backglass in hand, wanting it restored. We were in a position to scan his glass right then and there too, so we did. Off to Photoshop for some repair of the faded and flaked artwork, and now we’re ready […]
Sometimes I wonder why we take on projects like restoring this 1949 Gottlieb Old Faithful backglass. Man this glass was smoked and hung up wet. It was considerable work to make it into something presentable. The oranges on the original glass were completely faded away too. Though not perfect (much missing from the original), I […]
The New York and Wisconsin add-a-ball games are pretty rare for this part of the country, but amazingly in walked a 1975 Gottlieb Team One pinball backglass for restoration (add-a-ball version of Abracadabra). As with most Gottlieb score glasses from this era, the reds had badly flaked on this backglass. So we scanned it in, […]
This was a case of stupidity on my part. I was given a 1985 Williams Sorcerer from a friend. He gave me the game because he tried to move it down stairs to his basement without removing the backbox. In the process, he broken the backbox right off the game. Now I do a lot […]
We were delivered a Williams Aqua Gun (gun game) backglass for restoration. The transparent areas of the glass had flaked and the owner wanted it repaired. So we scanned the glass and did the restoration. Below are the before and after pictures.
In to the shop walked a 1954 Williams Big Ben backglass for restoration. This is a woodrail pinball (not to be confused with the 1975 Williams Big Ben.) The glass was in amazing condition given it’s 60 years old, but clearly needed some restoration. Below are the before and after pictures.
The 1953 Williams Nine Sisters is a pretty cool woodrail with several features that were recycled in pinball nearly 50 years later. So when a Nine Sisters backglass walked into the shop for restoration, we were more than happy to make it happen. Note in our original scan (first picture) the background for the three […]
Not too many woodrail score glasses walk into the shop, but this one did. It was actually in pretty good condition considering it’s nearly 60 years old. But the cancer had started, and the owner wanted to preserve it and in the process, get a better looking glass. So we scanned it in, cleaned it […]
A customer walked into the shop with this backglass in toe. It had definitely seen better days, but there was enough of the main artwork for a restoration. We scanned in the original glass and fixed the missing sections, then restored his original glass to like new condition. Check out the before and after pictures […]
This was one of those examples were we were supplied with the backglass images already scanned. Generally we don’t like this, as our scanning methods ensure a good 300dpi scan and proper contrast. But sometimes this is the only way to get a glass started (if the game owner is paranoid about sending their original […]
Stern’s Nine Ball was a hard glass to find a good restore example. After some searching we found one for scanning, and then brightened the image to make it “pop” (as they say.) Below are the before and after pictures.
The mate to the EM arcade game “Ringer” is Williams Penny Pitch. They are identical games just with different themes. Personally we like the Penny Pitch score glass better than Ringer, so when one walked into the shop for restoration, we were excited. Below are the before and after pictures of the restoration.
This was a not-so-odd situation where the original owner had a good glass, but felt the colors were muted and dull. So we scanned the glass and increased the contrast, while still keeping the pantone-corrected colors. A lot of guys do complete game restorations and want a little more “pop” from their glass (even if […]
When this 1963 Bally EM multi-ball game backglass walked into the shop for restoration, we were all thrilled to do the work! What an absolutely cool backglass, with Jetson type artwork, yet with 1950s style pin-up artwork babes. It was a thrill to restore this glass. Check out the before and after pictures below.
In walked a 1973 Gottlieb Pin-Up backglass for restoration. The orange “pin-up” back lit lettering had really peeled. Otherwise the glass was in good condition, but the lit orange area was in really poor condition. So we restored the glass for the fella. Below are the before and after pictures.
In walked a 1976 Gottlieb Lucky Hand backglass for restoration (add-a-ball of Jacks Open). The reds on this particular glass were really peeled. Though the rest of the colors were OK, the reds were extremely flaked. So bad that the owner said lit-up, the glass was insanely ugly. So we scanned the glass, fixed the […]
A 1970s Williams Ringer EM arcade game glass walked into the shop needing restoration. Lots of ink delamination made this glass less than stellar condition. It was definitely due for an upgrade. We scanned in the original glass and pantone color corrected it, and fixed the flaws. Below are the before and after pictures.
This 1976 Williams Grand Prix glass walked into the shop with issues. Besides the fading and flaking of the reds, there was crazing and delamination of ink on much of the translucent areas of the glass. Our job was to restore this glass to as-new condition. Check out the before and after pictures below.
The iconic 1981 Bally Centaur is often requested as a glass that needs restoration. We’ve done a fair number of these in the past, due to the game’s popularity. Below are picture of the before and after work (though frankly the before picture really doesn’t show a lot of work needing to be done.)
The 1976 Gottlieb Royal Flush is definitely one of those classic EM pinballs (4 player version of Card Whiz). Certainly one of the best multi-player EMs of the 1970s. So when a glass came in for restoration, we were all for doing the work! The owner had an extremely nice game, and his backglass was […]
Another glass that wasn’t in terrible condition, but the owner felt it was time to make his game look a bit better with a restored glass. So we took in this 1967 Gottlieb King of Diamond backglass and restored it to like new condition. Below are the before and after pictures.
This was one of those strange situations where someone else did the majority of the Photoshop work. Therefore I do not have a “before” picture of the original backglass. We were asked to print this for the individual, and he provided the artwork file. He also did a custom Ren & Stimpy version of the […]
A 1973 Chicago Coin Twin Rifle gun game backglass came into the shop needing restoration. The front wasn’t too bad, but from the back of the glass, you could see significant flaking (in the reds) and touch ups. The owner wanted this glass to look nice, so we scanned it and corrected the flaws. Below […]
We’ve been waiting for a while to do this restoration! We have a pile of old stinky 1980 Bally Nitro Ground Shaker glasses here with assorted art delamination problems, and just needed one good one to come about, so we could scan it. (It’s a lot easier working from a good glass than to re-work […]
A 1975 Gottlieb Pioneer came into our mitts recently with a very nice backglass. Though we had no standing orders for a Pioneer backglass restoration, we thought it was in everyone’s best interest to scan and color correct the image, for future reference. Below are the before and after pictures of that restoration, ready for […]
This game came our way and we thought we should archive the backglass. Though we have no one asking for this game’s restoration, sometime opportunity knocks, and we know it’s better to have the glass on file. Then when someone asks, we have it and we can easily restore it. Here’s the before and after […]
This 1975 Gottlieb El Dorado pinball backglass was in great shape (replay version of Gold Strike). Often a lot of the red on the original glass fades. Since it’s such a popular game we thought it best to scan and color correct the glass for future use. The before and after pictures are shown below.
When this Bally Mata Hari EM backglass walked in, we knew we were in for some work. Now Mata Hari EM games are rare, so the chance of finding another glass in better condition was like zero percent. So what we did was to scan a good SS version, and overlay the EM vitals on […]
Of all of the 1970s Gottlieb EM pinballs, the 1977 Gottlieb Fire Queen is certainly one of the most pretty (2 player version of Vulcan). The artwork is pretty stunning. So when someone walked in with this original glass needing restoration, we were on the case. The original, though in decent condition, was having fade […]
The Gottlieb Fastdraw backglass walked into the shop for restoration (4 player version of Quick Draw.) As with most Fast Draw glasses, the reds were highly faded and flaked. Below are the before and after pictures of this restoration.
The beauty behind these backglass restorations is you can take a game like say Williams Jolly Rogers, which really doesn’t have a lot of value, and give it an upgrade with a nice backglass. And without spending a zillion dollars in the process too. Because after all, who is ever going to re-issue a silk […]
We did a restoration of a Williams Gulfstream awhile back, and felt it was time to do a restoration of the a Williams Travel Time. A timed style game, which is a little weird for an EM, but hey they needed a new glass. Below are the after pictures of the restored glass.
Actually this original glass was in very nice condition. But we’ve been hearing from people that a number of individuals have this game with a bad backglass. For this reason we scanned it, touched it out, and are ready to restore other original glasses. Here are the before and after pictures:
Another Williams EM Strato-Flite and the two player Super-Flite pinball title that often has a bad backglass. It was difficult to find a good example, so we were stuck with a fairly bad version to restore. Check out the before and after pictures below. Here’s the two player version Williams Super Flite.
Another strange situation where the glass came to us in digital format from a good clean scan. Only had to do very minimal clean up to make it nice. Below are “after” pictures.
We received this glass in digital format, which only required minimal editing. We don’t know what the original glass really looked like, since we only had the digital file. Here’s the output file.
Another case where the original owner of this 1974 Gottlieb SkyJump pinball just wanted to freshen up their game. The colors were too drab, faded and yellowed. So we scanned in the backglass and added some contrast to the backglass, giving it a brighter look. Here’s the before and after pictures:
The 1970 Bally Big Valley is, I believe, the only 3″ flipper EM multi-ball game ever made (all other EM multi-ball games use 2″ flippers.) Regardless, the backglass walked into the shop, and was severely peeling. Now this game isn’t particularly plentiful, in fact, it’s probably pretty rare. But to add to that, this was […]
We just don’t do pinball backglasses, we also do other coin operated game glass work too. In this case it wasn’t so much of a restoration as a replacement. A guy walked into the shop with a 1965 Midway Monster Gun game score glass. The problem was, he had two of these games, but only […]
This glass wondered into the shop, and frankly, had seen better days. It wasn’t terrible – an older restoration had saved the glass from certain flaking and failure. But clearly the backglass for this 1960 Williams Jungle pinball needed restoration. Aside from the touchups, the original colors were extremely faded. Anywhere there was red, the […]
The 1980 Stern Stargazer is one glass that most re-issue glass places won’t touch. The heavy usages of 4-process color and color dots makes it just too difficult to do a good silkscreen reproduction. We can however handle this task. Below are our before and after pictures of this Stern pinball glass.
So a guy walks into the shop with his original 1974 Bally Champ backglass. We just couldn’t believe how faded the glass had become. It was weird too, because a lot of the red had faded, but not all of it. Also there was orange in the glass, which isn’t very predominate normally. So we […]
This 1976 Gottlieb Buccaneer back glass had some distracting flaking in the white areas around the score reels, which upset the owner. So we took on this repair, scanning his original glass and repairing the damaged areas. We also made the colors brighter with more contrast. See the before and after pictures below.
Another interesting situating where someone else had done the initial scan, and we just had to set it up for our glass. The picture below is the file as delivered and our edited file.
Another unusual circumstance where the original glass was in good condition, but the owner felt the colors were too dull and faded. So we increased the contrast on the colors and restored his original glass. We were extremely happy with how this glass came out, and we’re ready to restore your glass too. Here’s the […]
Another odd circumstance where the customer provided a scan of his backglass. Just wanted stronger bolder colors and a fresh look to his current backglass. We are hesitant to do this but hey, if they want their glass restored, then we’ll do it. Below are the before and after pictures of the Bally Aladdin’s Castle […]
Another glass where the original back plane did not show up at the show, just the scan. So we cleaned up the scan and did a re-print for the customer. His original was faded, not too bad, but enough that it bothered him. Below is the before and after pictures.
We received this Gottlieb Abra-ca-dabra backglass already scanned (replay version of Team One). The problem with this glass was the extreme fade in the colors, particularly the reds. With some re-work, we’re able to really make the restoration look quite good. (The first picture shows the the original faded colors.)
Here’s one that was a complete pain in the butt to do! In walked a guy with a 1959 Gottlieb World Beauties pinball backglass, and it was in pretty poor condition. We took on the restoration job, but frankly, we would have been better served not doing this one! The extreme detail in the artwork […]
Here’s another one of those 1954 Williams woodrail pinball backglasses that was in desperate need of restoration. The game was in good condition, but the backglass, not so much. There had been some previous repair work done in a less than professional manner. So it was our job to fix this work. Below are the […]
This particular Gottlieb Jack in the Box backglass had really seen better days (4 player version of Jumpin Jack). All the translucent red areas had flaked so badly that the areas were clear. So when this glass walked into the shop, it was a definite candidate for a restoration. Check out the before and after […]
In 1954 Williams made some pretty innovative woodrail pinballs. One of these was Williams Colors. A customer wondered into the shop wanting us to restore his glass. The glass was in pretty bad shape, but we feel lucky that we were able to scan the original glass before the original ink completely flaked apart. We […]
A gentlemen walked into the shop with a 1980 Gottlieb Star Race backglass he wanted restored. From the front it actually looked pretty good, but from the back, there were a lot of touchups that bothered him. So we scanned the glass and cleaned up the artwork, and restored his original glass. Here’s the before […]
The 1973 Williams OXO pinball backglass is one where it’s difficult to find a good example. We dug around for a while and managed to find one that wasn’t too flaked, scanned it, and corrected the artwork. There are some other digital re-makes of this glass out there, but they are generally pretty expensive. We […]
The 1980 Stern Big Game is a score glass that is often damaged. We waited for a decent example to come along, and then scanned it and repaired it in Photoshop. The problem often seen on this glass is the fading and peeling of the reds. We fixed all that, and here’s the before and […]
Some games we see a lot of, and the 1979 Gottlieb system1 “Countdown” is one of those games. It’s rare to see one with a decent glass too. Unfortunately the original has some minor mirroring, which we can’t reproduce (at least not easily.) So that gets converted to color. But I think you’ll agree that […]
The problem with games using a 4-process color backglass is that no one wants to do a silk screen reproduction. The work is just too tedious to reconstruct in a vector art package. That’s where we come in, because our process does not require vector art (photoshop instead.) The 1981 Bally Medusa score glass can […]
This glass wasn’t in too bad condition, but the reds were flaking as were the flesh tones. So the owner wanted it restored to make his 1973 Gottlieb Big Shot pinball look extra nice (2 player version of Hot Shot). No problem, we scanned in the glass and cleaned up the artwork. Before and after […]
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Gottlieb Pink Panther pinball with a decent backglass. But this one walked into the shop is decent condition. Certainly good enough to use as a start to making a new version of the glass. So we scanned in the front and back side, and cleaned up the art […]
The 1958 Keeney League Leader is a rather rare pitch and bat baseball game. It is also a really fun and unique game, where the ball goes through the air and at the bat. So when one came up for sale with a bad backglass, we decided it was a good game to buy (knowing […]
Another great classic 1980s Stern pinball. A customer wondered into the shop with the 1980 Stern Freefall backglass, wanting a copy of his original glass. Since his was in decent condition, we were OK with scanning his original and doing some light editing to the work file. Below are the results (the original scan is […]
A guy walked in with a really bad condition 1965 Gottlieb Kings & Queens backglass. It was in such bad condition, we really didn’t want to try and restore it. But then he said his buddy had bought a new silk screened reproduction of the backglass, and he asked us to use this to fix […]
Something happened to this backglass in its life which created some defects dead center in the glass. The center girl had this quarter sized defect in her torso, and some extreme ink lost on her leg. It was pretty distracting. Add to that just some general ink delamination in a couple other areas, and this […]
Though this glass was in very nice shape, the owner felt the colors were faded and muted. Can’t argue with that, so we restored this 1973 Gottlieb High Hand back glass for him. Below are the before and after pictures. Note we have also restorated the Add-a-ball version of this game (Capt. Card.)
The good thing about these classic Stern games is the copyright is not protected, leaving many people (other than us) to reproduce the classic Stern 1977-1985 backglasses without any legal fears. Because of this, when a customer walked in with a Stern Galaxy backglass, we not only could restore his original, but can also sell […]
So a guy walks into the shop and say, “hey I really need a Bally Zip-a-Do backglass.” We’re like, well, we don’t sell backglasses we restore them. His response is, “I have the glass, just it’s in about 100 pieces.” Well that’s a bit of a challenge! So we do some internet searching and can’t […]
